Description

These codes (OFCE_Codes.zip) use the original sources of data (OFCE_datasets.zip) to replicate all the empirical analysis in the article. See the README word file for a brief description of each code and which figures and tables are replicated by each code.

Files

Steps to reproduce

The main file M_Africa.do replicates the entire analysis from beginning to end. Researchers can also run individual codes to check specific results. "List_countries.do" creates the list of countries used in this study across each African region (appendix). “Summary_figures.do" uses the Laeven and Valencia 2020 and Nguyen et al. 2022 datasets to create Table 1 and Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4. “Summary_MaPPs.do" uses the Alam et al. 2019 dataset to create Table 5 and Figures 5, 7 and 8. It uses the Chinn and Ito 2006 dataset to create Figure 10 and the Fernandez et al. 2016 dataset for Figure 7. “Summary_regs.do” creates Tables 2, 3 and 4. “Table_before_GFC.do” creates Table 6. “Findex2011_HousingLoanPenetration.co” creates Table 7. "Summary_MaPPs_Africa.do" uses the Alam et al. 2019 dataset to Figures 6 and 9. It uses the Chinn and Ito 2006 dataset to create Figure 12. Finally, it uses the Fernandez et al. 2016 dataset to create Figure 13.
