Description

Objective: Aerobic endurance performance is dependent on maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max). Inspiratory capacity and VO2max help in endurance athlete to enhance their performance in sport. Design: Two-group pretest-posttest randomized controlled trial. Setting: Sports research lab of Maharishi Markandeshwar Institute of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, MM (DU). Purpose: To increase the inspiratory capacity and endurance of sports players through diaphragmatic and chest expansion resistance training. Methods: 30 male endurance athletes aged 18-30 years without any history of recent illness or surgery was included. Participants randomly selected into two groups, treatment protocol is for four weeks in both the groups, experimental as well as conventional. In experimental group, diaphragmatic resistance training, diaphragm PNF and chest expansion resistance training and usual sports practice sessions, were given thrice a week. In conventional group, only chest expansion resistance training and usual sports practice sessions were given to the participants. Result: Data analysis was done by Wilcoxon signed rank test/ Paired t-test foe within group analysis and Mann-Whitney U-test/independent t-test for between group analysis. The significance level will be set at 0.05. all outcome measures showed highly significant result. Conclusion: Both group showed improvement in inspiratory capacity and endurance. There was significant difference in between group analysis, experimental group showed highly significant result.
