Description

This dataset contains de-identified clinical and surgical data related to functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) performed in a hybrid operating room. It provides supporting data for evaluating the application of the hybrid operating room in endoscopic sinus surgery. Variable definitions and coding instructions are provided in the accompanying data dictionary to facilitate interpretation and reuse.

Steps to reproduce

1. Download the Excel workbook and import the worksheet “R1150070_sub” into spreadsheet or statistical software, retaining the original column headings. 2. Identify eligible functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) records using the diagnosis and operation fields. Use ID_Patient_subgroup to identify individual records and ID_Patient to check for repeated patients. 3. Convert surgical dates from the Republic of China calendar to the Gregorian calendar by adding 1911 to the year. Import anesthesia, surgery, and CT timestamps as time variables. 4. Review and standardize categorical variables, including sex, primary versus revision surgery, chronic rhinosinusitis with or without nasal polyps, unilateral versus bilateral surgery, concomitant procedures, and navigation use. Treat blank cells as missing or undocumented information, rather than as negative findings. 5. Verify anesthesia duration as anesthesia end time minus anesthesia start time, and surgical duration as surgery end time minus incision time, expressed in minutes. Account for procedures crossing midnight. 6. Assess intraoperative CT timing, purpose, and any additional surgery prompted by CT using the corresponding fields and supporting operative documentation. Distinguish documented imaging use from billing indicators alone. 7. Summarize categorical variables as counts and percentages with explicit denominators. Summarize continuous variables, including age, blood loss, anesthesia duration, and surgical duration, using appropriate descriptive statistics. Report missing values for each variable. 8. To reproduce results from an associated publication, apply its specified eligibility criteria, variable definitions, subgroup classifications, and statistical methods to the deposited dataset.
