Steps to reproduce

Software environment Microsoft Excel for Microsoft 365 (version 2402) All original data are provided as supplementary file “Data_GSAB.xlsx” (see uploaded data files). Data preparation The Excel file contains two worksheets: “OP1_Mn_ores” and “OP2_Mn_ores”. Each worksheet includes columns: Sample ID, MnO, CaO, MgO, TFe₂O₃, Al₂O₃, P₂O₅, total REY, δ¹³C (‰), TOC (%), and individual REE concentrations (ppm). PAAS reference values (McLennan, 1989) are given in a separate sheet “PAAS”. Steps to generate each plot 1. Cross plots of major oxides and total REY versus MnO (for OP1 and OP2 separately) Open worksheet, e.g., “OP1_Mn_ores”. Select data columns: MnO (X axis) and CaO (Y axis). Insert → Scatter (XY) → choose marker type. Add axis labels: “MnO (wt%)” and “CaO (wt%)”. Repeat the same for MgO, TFe₂O₃, Al₂O₃, P₂O₅, and total REY versus MnO. Apply the same procedure to worksheet “OP2_Mn_ores”. 2. δ¹³C versus MnO Highlight columns MnO (X) and δ¹³C (Y) from each worksheet. Insert scatter plot, label axes “MnO (wt%)” and “δ¹³C (‰ VPDB)”. 3. δ¹³C versus TOC Similar as above: TOC (X) vs δ¹³C (Y), axes labels “TOC (%)” and “δ¹³C (‰ VPDB)”. 4. PAAS normalized REE patterns For each sample, in a new column calculate normalized value for each REE: = (REE_conc / PAAS_REE_value). Select all normalized columns (rows = samples, columns = REE elements). Insert → Scatter with Straight Lines and Markers (line + symbol). X‑axis: REE elements in order (La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu). Y‑axis: normalized ratio (often logarithmic scale – set axis scale to “Logarithmic”). Label axes: “La Ce Pr Nd Sm Eu Gd Tb Dy Ho Er Tm Yb Lu” and “Sample / PAAS”. Output All figures were directly exported from Excel as PNG/TIFF files (specified resolution: 300 dpi).
