Steps to reproduce

🔬 1. Microscopy (Dataset: Micrographs of pink pill) Equipment Light microscope (e.g., Carton microscope) Camera (attached or digital eyepiece) Procedure Place the pink pill on a clean microscope stage without modifying or sectioning it. Capture images at 4× magnification using bright-field illumination. Record multiple images from different angles (if needed) to document morphology. Save images in standard formats (e.g., JPG or TIFF). ⚗️ 2. Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (Dataset: Analysis of pink pill by GCMS) Equipment & Software GC-MS instrument (e.g., Agilent or Thermo GCMS system) NIST library for compound identification Sample Preparation Dissolve a portion of the pink pill in a polar solvent (e.g., methanol or ethanol). Filter to remove particulates if needed. Inject a suitable volume (e.g., 1 µL) into the GC-MS. Instrument Conditions (general guidance) Column: DB-5MS or equivalent Carrier Gas: Helium Oven Program: Start at 60°C → ramp to 280°C MS Mode: Electron Ionization (EI), scan mode Data Analysis Analyze the total ion chromatogram (TIC). Reference Spectrum Obtain reference IR spectrum of caffeine anhydrous (from library or measured) Subtraction Process in OPUS Load the pink pill spectrum as the "sample." Load the caffeine spectrum as the "reference." Open the subtraction tool: Evaluate → Spectral Subtraction Scale the reference spectrum appropriately (e.g., manually or automatically using OPUS). Subtract and save the resulting spectrum. Spectral Matching Use the OPUS library search feature.
