Description
This dataset compiles all the data corresponding to the figures presented in the article “Experimental insights into early cement development in carbonate aquifers: from diffusion to surface-controlled calcite growth.” It documents the transformation of aragonite into calcite, at the grain scale, during laboratory experiments simulating early diagenesis in aragonite ooids. Experiments were conducted at 120 °C and 150 °C, with time steps ranging from 6 hours to 6 months. Throughout these experiments, a Calcite Fringe (CF) formed at the grain periphery, while a dissolution zone (LZ) developed within the grain. The dataset brings together all measurements associated with these processes and includes: 1. Radii measurements of the Calcite Fringe (CF). These are provided in the folders “CF_measurements_120” and “CF_measurements_150”. 2. Radii measurements of the dissolution zone (LZ). These are provided in the folders “LZ_measurements_120” and “LZ_measurements_150”. 3. Volume calculations corresponding to CF and LZ radii measurements, provided in the .csv files “CF_LZ_Volume_120°C” and “CF_LZ_Volume_150°C”. 4. Diffractograms from XRD measurements showing the aragonite–calcite transformations at 120 °C and 150 °C, available in the folders “DRX_XY_120” and “DRX_XY_150”. The files are in .xy format. 5. Results of semi-quantitative diffractogram analyses, provided in the .csv files “DRX_120” and “DRX_150”. 6. Results of ICP analyses performed on the reaction fluid, provided in the .csv files “ICP_120” and “ICP_150”. 7. The evolution of nucleation rate and critical saturation, calculated from EBSD images, provided in the .csv file “nucleation_rate_omega”. 8. Porosity measurements in the LZ over time, provided in the .csv files “Phi_LZ_measured_120” and “Phi_LZ_measured_150”. 9. Calculated porosity evolution in the CF over time, based on Equation (12), provided in the .csv files “Phi_CF_120” and “Phi_CF_150”.
