Climate Anxiety, Social Media Exposure, and Environmental Considerations in Childbearing Decisions: Survey Data from Bogor, Indonesia
Description
This dataset contains cross-sectional questionnaire data collected from 106 respondents in Bogor, Indonesia, between June and July, 2026. The dataset was developed to examine the relationships among climate anxiety and environmental concern, exposure to and engagement with environmental narratives on social media, and environmental considerations in attitudes toward childbearing. The questionnaire contains 24 substantive items organized into three constructs, with eight items for each construct. The first construct measures climate anxiety and environmental concern, including worry, anxiety, uncertainty about the future, fear regarding environmental conditions faced by future generations, sadness, perceived helplessness, perceptions of environmental crisis as a threat, and consideration of climate-change impacts on everyday life. The second construct measures exposure to and engagement with environmental narratives on social media, including general social-media use, exposure to climate-related content, engagement with environmental accounts or communities, environmental awareness, algorithmic exposure, exposure to narratives connecting environmental crises with decisions not to have children, perceived influence on views of the future, and perceived credibility of environmental content. The third construct measures environmental considerations in childbearing attitudes, including the role of environmental conditions in decisions about having children, ethical concerns about bringing children into an environmentally uncertain future, climate-related concerns about reproduction, attitudes toward environmentally motivated childfree decisions, environmental responsibility, social pressure to have children, gendered reproductive pressure, and consideration of environmental crises in population policy. All substantive questionnaire items use a five-point numerical Likert-type response format ranging from 1 to 5. The dataset also contains demographic information on respondents' age, gender, and marital status. Respondents range from 18 to 48 years of age. The data can be used for descriptive analysis, reliability testing, correlation analysis, regression modelling, factor analysis, and further investigation of the relationships among environmental concern, digital media exposure, and reproductive attitudes in an Indonesian urban context.

This dataset was generated through a cross-sectional online survey conducted in Bogor, Indonesia. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire created and distributed through Google Forms between June 22 and July 20, 2026. The questionnaire consisted of demographic questions and 24 substantive items grouped into three variables. The first variable contained eight items measuring climate anxiety and environmental concern. The second variable contained eight items measuring exposure to and engagement with environmental narratives on social media. The third variable contained eight items measuring environmental considerations in attitudes toward childbearing. All substantive items were measured using a five-point Likert-type response scale ranging from 1 to 5. Participants accessed the questionnaire through a Google Forms link and completed the survey independently. Google Forms automatically recorded and organized the submitted responses. After the data collection period ended, the responses were exported from Google Forms into tabular format and subsequently saved as a CSV file for data management and analysis. The dataset was then reviewed for data completeness and formatting. One completely blank row was excluded, resulting in 106 valid respondent records. The substantive questionnaire contained complete responses across all 24 Likert-scale items. To protect participant privacy, names and initials originally entered in the questionnaire were removed from the public dataset and replaced with anonymous respondent identifiers (R001–R106). To reproduce the data collection workflow, researchers may construct an online questionnaire in Google Forms using the same demographic variables, questionnaire constructs, item wording, and five-point response scale; distribute the questionnaire to a comparable population in Bogor or another specified study location; collect responses during a defined survey period; export the responses into CSV format; screen the dataset for incomplete or invalid records; remove personally identifiable information; and assign anonymous respondent identifiers before analysis or public data sharing. No laboratory instruments, reagents, or experimental equipment were used. The primary data-collection instrument was the structured online questionnaire administered through Google Forms. The resulting dataset can subsequently be analyzed using statistical software appropriate for descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, regression modelling, or other relevant quantitative procedures.
