ChacoClimateFireDataset_2013-2023_Paraguay.csv
Description
This paper introduces the ChacoClimateFireDataset, a curated tabular dataset of 316,333 spatio-temporal records for wildfire occurrence assessment in the Paraguayan Chaco (depart- ments of Alto Paraguay, Boquerón, and Presidente Hayes). Each record corresponds to a geographic point (latitude/longitude) and a four-day observation window (d0, the reference day, and the three preceding days d1–d3), extracted via the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform over the period April 1, 2013 to November 30, 2023. Variables include satellite- derived surface reflectance and NDVI (VIIRS VNP09GA), active fire detections (VIIRS VNP14A1), land cover type (MODIS MCD12Q1), meteorological parameters from ERA5- Land (air temperature, wind components, precipitation, soil moisture), the six components of the Canadian Forest Fire Weather Index (FWI) System, and an INPE-based fire risk index adapted for the Chaco biome. Each record is labeled with a binary target indicating fire occurrence, with a natural class distribution of 86,633 fire records (27.4%) and 229,700 non-fire records (72.6%). The dataset is provided in tabular format (CSV) with 71 columns. It supports research on machine learning-based wildfire prediction, climate–vegetation inter- action studies, and the development of early-warning systems in a data-scarce region with no current operational fire forecasting tools.
