Carbon Pricing under Power-System Expansion: Development-Dependent Policy Matching for Electricity Decarbonization

This dataset contains the replication data used in the study “Carbon Pricing under Power-System Expansion: Development-Dependent Policy Matching for Electricity Decarbonization.” The dataset covers 190 countries over the period 1990–2024 and includes power-sector CO₂ emissions, emissions trading system (ETS) and carbon tax (CT) adoption, electricity access, electricity consumption, renewable energy consumption, economic-development indicators, treatment timing, and development-stage classifications. The data support the baseline regressions, economic-development specifications, joint ETS–carbon tax models, placebo tests, development-stage heterogeneity analysis, group-time average treatment effects, and dynamic event-study analyses reported in the study.

Steps to reproduce

This repository contains the replication code for the empirical analyses reported in “Carbon Pricing under Power-System Expansion: Development-Dependent Policy Matching for Electricity Decarbonization.” The code reproduces the baseline and extended regression specifications, joint ETS–carbon tax models, placebo and randomization tests, development-stage heterogeneity analyses, doubly robust group-time average treatment effects, and Sun–Abraham interaction-weighted event-study estimates. A README file is included with information on the organization and execution of the replication files.
