Parallel Polarized Dermoscopy for Acral Parallel Pattern Analysis

Figure 1. Cross-polarized (A) and parallel-polarized (B) dermoscopy of an acral pigmented lesion on the plantar surface, demonstrating a parallel furrow pattern. Pigmentation is confined to the sulci, while acrosyringial openings are preserved along the cristae and are markedly more conspicuous as bright dots in the parallel-polarized image (B), facilitating ridge–furrow discrimination for BRAAFF scoring. Images were acquired with a DermLite DL5 hybrid dermatoscope (3Gen Inc., San Juan Capistrano, CA, USA) coupled to an iPhone 17 Pro smartphone camera (Apple Inc., Cupertino, CA, USA).
