Processed tract-level data and replication code for mosque geography and population change in Dallas-Fort Worth
Description
This dataset contains processed census tract-level data and replication code supporting the manuscript “Mosque Location, Immigrant Settlement, and Suburban Growth in Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.” The package includes derived variables for population change, demographic and socioeconomic context, road accessibility, mosque geography, 5 km mosque exposure, nearest-mosque distance, and spatial model replication. Public source data were obtained from IPUMS NHGIS, the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey, and U.S. Census TIGER/Line files. Derived mosque variables are included in the processed tract-level dataset. Raw custom mosque point and building-footprint files are not redistributed because they were compiled by the authors through custom geocoding and validation. The included derived variables are sufficient to reproduce the main statistical analyses reported in the manuscript. The American Community Survey does not provide tract-level religious affiliation data. The immigrant-origin proxy included in this dataset is a contextual demographic measure based on selected South Asian, Middle Eastern, and African foreign-born populations as a share of tract foreign-born population. It should not be interpreted as a direct measure of Muslim residents, mosque membership, or worship attendance.

Steps to reproduce
Download and unzip Data_Availability_Package.zip. Open code/Mosque_Analysis_Replication_Clean.Rmd in RStudio. Run the R Markdown file from top to bottom. The script loads the processed tract-level dataset from data/processed/analysis_dataset.csv and the spatial tract dataset from data/processed/analysis_tracts.gpkg, constructs the complete-case modeling dataset, estimates the OLS models, calculates VIF and Moran's I diagnostics, estimates the spatial lag model, and reports AIC/RMSE model comparison results. Required R packages include sf, dplyr, readr, tidyr, broom, car, spdep, and spatialreg. The processed data already include the derived mosque geography variables, 5 km exposure measure, nearest-mosque distance, road accessibility, demographic and socioeconomic variables, and population change variables used in the manuscript.
