ATR-FTIR Spectral Data of Pure Red Chilli Powder and Sudan(IV) adulterated Red Chilli Powder

Description

To create this dataset, seven pure varieties of red chilli powder were collected from different regions of India, along with low-grade varieties commonly used as adulterants in red chilli powder (RcP). These low-grade varieties are often added to increase volume, but they possess inferior color quality, which is typically masked by the addition of the azo dye Sudan IV. Consequently, this dataset includes FTIR spectra of both pure RcP and RcP adulterated with Sudan IV at a minimal concentration of 100 ppm. This dataset can be utilized by researchers in the future to explore advanced chemometric techniques for the detection of RcP adulteration with Sudan IV. The analysed varieties include Khammam Teja (KT), harvested from a chilli farm in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh; Mathania Mirch or Jodhpuri (JP), from Mathania, Jodhpur, Rajasthan; United (UT), from Firozpur, Punjab; Boriya Chilli (BM), from Kanyakumari; CH-27 (CH), from Sangrur, Punjab; Guntur Sanam (GM), from Andhra Pradesh; and Wonder Heart (WH), from Warangal, Telangana. Additionally, Sudan IV was intentionally adulterated into the lower-grade varieties at concentrations of 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6%, and 1.0%, respectively. The accompanying Excel file (.xlsx) contains two sheets: one with spectral data of pure red chilli powder (RcP), and the other with spectra of adulterated samples. The transmittance spectra for all test samples were recorded over the range of 700 to 3700 cm⁻¹ using a Perkin Elmer spectrometer (Galveston, USA) at a resolution of 1.98 cm⁻¹, yielding a total of 1610 data points
