Sentinel-1 SAR imagery (VV and VH polarization) for hydraulic dynamics analysis in the Bajo Cauca region, Antioquia–Colombia
Description
This dataset contains the original Sentinel-1 Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) scenes used in the study “A methodology for multitemporal analysis of hydraulic dynamics of water bodies using satellite radar imagery: a case study of the Bajo Cauca region in Antioquia-Colombia”, published in Journal of Hydroinformatics (DOI: https://doi.org/10.2166/hydro.2025.077). The data correspond to monthly Sentinel-1 SAR images in VV and VH polarization, covering the Bajo Cauca region (Antioquia, Colombia) between May 2017 and December 2024. These raw SAR scenes were used as input for the preprocessing, despeckling, and classification stages described in the publication. No modifications have been applied other than cropping to the study area.

Steps to reproduce
The SAR images in VV and VH polarization were obtained through Google Earth Engine using the COPERNICUS/S1_GRD collection. A Python script was used to download one image per month (2017–2024) covering the Bajo Cauca region (Antioquia, Colombia). The script filters Sentinel-1A/B scenes by polarization (VV, VH), mode (IW), orbit (descending), and area of interest. Only the first image of each month was exported as GeoTIFF.
