Wayang Purwa Ontology Dataset

Description

The dataset represents structured knowledge about Wayang Purwa characters and related cultural heritage entities, using an OWL-based semantic-web representation. The ontology covers character identity, character groups, places of residence or origin, kingdoms, titles, heirlooms, supernatural abilities, skills, duties, character traits, and kinship relations. The dataset was developed from manually reviewed printed references and organized into machine-processable semantic data. The primary references used for knowledge acquisition were: 1) Mengenal Wayang Kulit Purwa: Wujud, Karakter dan Kisahnya; 2) Anatomi Wayang Kulit Purwa; and 3) Mengenal Gambar Tokoh Wayang Purwa dan Keterangannya. These references were used to identify relevant character names, attributes, family relations, places, titles, heirlooms, supernatural abilities, and descriptive information that were later transformed into ontology-ready entities and assertions. The dataset uses a cognitive approach to knowledge organization: Wayang Purwa entities are represented not as isolated records, but as concepts connected through meaningful categories, attributes, and relations. This structure supports user-oriented exploration, for example, by retrieving characters through genealogy, residence, title, heirloom, supernatural ability, or descriptive attribute.

Steps to reproduce

Users may reproduce, validate, and reuse the dataset for research, teaching, semantic search, cultural heritage knowledge representation, ontology engineering, linked data development, and digital humanities applications. Recommended steps are: • Download the full repository package, including the main wayang_purwa_ontology.owl file and family.swrl.owl. • Keep the imported ontology together with the main ontology or update the import path so that Protégé can resolve it. • Use Protégé to inspect ontology classes, properties, individuals, and logical restrictions. • Use Pellet or a compatible OWL reasoner for consistency checking. • Use competency questions to verify whether expected retrieval patterns still work after reuse or extension. • When adding new entities, preserve namespace conventions and document the source of new assertions. • Create a new version number and changelog when extending or modifying the ontology.
