The purpose of this ABM simulation is to measure the evacuation effectiveness when the system is installed in an indoor environment and to optimize the system settings. We defined total evacuation time and safety among evacuees as a standard of evacuation effectiveness. Therefore we extracted total evacuation time with density in front of each exit from every 15 repetitions of simulations. As for the safety, we estimated the number of evacuees who take a detour for avoiding collision during evacuation. We set modeled the virtual multiplex area in Fig 1 after a real space. The multiplex space consists of 10 theaters (Th. 1 to 10) and six main exits. The total seating capacity is 1,846, excluding public spaces but we set the occupancy of the multiplex to 85% capacity, i.e., 1,598 people were in theaters and 445 people were in the public space. The locations of the eight beacons are assumed to be installed in front of each exit. Initial speeds of evacuees are set as 1.2 to 1.8 m/s and their shoulder widths are equally defined as 51cm. When the simulation begins, all people start to move to the closest exit from their location. In the meantime, the beacons provide detour maps for evacuees when they pass through its radius. The detour maps change based on whether the exits where they are expected to reach are crowded. If all exits are crowded, the evacuees can receive the several routes toward closer exits so we make them choose their own path randomly. To measure the evacuation effectiveness and optimize the system settings, we conducted multiple executions while varying the beacon radius (2 to 5 m in 0.5 m increments) and RToB (3 to 13 s in 2 s increments). The total evacuation time and the number of people taking a detour were measured.
