Replication Materials for “Growing-Season Climate Anomalies and Regional Rice Productivity in Bangladesh”
Description
This repository contains replication materials for the manuscript “Growing-Season Climate Anomalies and Regional Rice Productivity in Bangladesh.” The study examines how growing-season climate anomalies are associated with district-level rice productivity across Bangladesh. The empirical analysis combines district-level rice area, production, and yield information for Aus, Aman, and Boro rice with monthly rainfall and climate conditions from CHIRPS and ERA5-Land. The balanced analytical panel covers all 64 districts, three rice systems, and nine crop-years from 2015–16 through 2023–24, yielding 1,728 district × crop × crop-year observations. Rice yield in tonnes per hectare is the primary outcome. Growing-season exposure measures include rainfall anomalies, temperature anomalies, soil-moisture anomalies, heavy-rainfall measures, and related climate indicators constructed using crop-specific seasonal windows. The main specifications include district × crop fixed effects and crop × crop-year fixed effects, with inference clustered by district. The replication workflow also includes crop-specific estimates, alternative crop-season windows, ERA5-Land precipitation as an alternative rainfall measure, log-yield specifications, source-quality and weather-tail sensitivity checks, heterogeneity tests, and leave-one-crop-year-out analyses. The public archive contains the audited rice panel, deposited district-month CHIRPS and ERA5-Land climate inputs, constructed weather-exposure datasets, merged analysis-ready panels, Stata 14-compatible code, statistical tables, figures, audit materials, source documentation, and reproducibility checks. The package reproduces the statistical analysis from the deposited audited rice and district-month climate inputs. Original BRRI/BBS publications and global source products are not redistributed as original source documents; third-party provider terms remain applicable.

Steps to reproduce
Download and extract the replication ZIP while preserving the folder structure and read the separately deposited README.txt. The analysis requires Stata 14.0 or later. Set the Stata working directory to the extracted repository root and run do "04_do/00_RUN_ALL_STATA14.do". The master workflow audits the district-crop-year rice panel, reconstructs monthly and crop-season climate exposures from the deposited CHIRPS and ERA5-Land district-month inputs, merges the weather measures with the rice panel, estimates the fixed-effects specifications, and reproduces the final robustness tables and figures. Runtime logs are written to 05_logs/, statistical outputs to 06_tables/, and final figures to 07_figures/. The deposited package reproduces the analysis from the audited rice panel and district-level climate extracts; it does not reconstruct the original BRRI/BBS publications or the global gridded climate products from their native source files.
