Rice Import Demand Estimate for Nepal
Description
The time-series annual data from 1981-2023 was obtained from Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Nepal and FAOSTAT, which is shown in Table 1 below. The data included annual rice import (000 Ton), annual rice production (000 Ton), annual consumption of rice (000 Ton), average annual domestic producer price of rice (USD/MT), average annual import price of rice (USD/MT), average annual per capita income (USD) and annual population size of Nepal. The price data from 1992-2023 were taken in US dollars. While from year 1981-1991 the price data were available only in Local Currency Unit, which were converted to US dollars using annual exchange rate data. The annual rice import quantity and value includes data for milled or milled equivalent rice only. The import prices were calculated by dividing total import value by total import quantity.
