Description

This dataset contains the peak-level GC–MS data underlying the study “Chemical Profiles of Essential Oils from Six Aromatic Plants Sourced in Amazonas, Peru.” The dataset includes retention times, tentative compound assignments, and relative chromatographic peak areas for essential oils obtained from Pimpinella anisum L., Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck, Tagetes minuta L., Piper aduncum L., Mentha pulegium L., and Eucalyptus globulus Labill. One essential oil sample was analyzed per species. Compound assignments were generated by comparison of electron-impact mass spectra with the NIST 2014 mass spectral library and should therefore be considered tentative because experimental linear retention indices and authentic reference standards were not available. Relative peak areas are semiquantitative and were calculated by normalization to the total integrated chromatographic peak area. The dataset also includes sample metadata and a data dictionary to facilitate interpretation and reuse.

Steps to reproduce

Essential oils were obtained by hydrodistillation from fresh plant material and analyzed individually by GC–MS using a Shimadzu GC-2010 Plus gas chromatograph coupled to a GCMS-QP210 Ultra mass spectrometer and equipped with an Rtx-5MS capillary column. Mass spectra were acquired in electron-impact ionization mode at 70 eV. Chromatographic peak assignments were generated using GCMSsolution software by comparison with the NIST 2014 mass spectral library. Because experimental linear retention indices and authentic reference standards were not available, compound names should be considered tentative assignments. Relative peak area (%) was calculated as the integrated area of each chromatographic peak divided by the sum of all reported integrated peak areas, multiplied by 100. The file “GCMS_Essential_Oils_Amazonas_Peru_Peak_Data.csv” contains the peak-level data used to reproduce the descriptive summaries reported in the associated manuscript. “Sample_Metadata.csv” provides sample and extraction information, and “Data_Dictionary.csv” defines all dataset variables. One essential oil sample was analyzed per species; therefore, analyses are descriptive and no inferential statistical tests were performed.
