Description

This data set contains the validation case input files and setup for a CFD-DEM (Computational Fluid Dynamics - Discrete Element Method) coupling simulation as described in the article "Cylindrical shell of sphere packing from fluidized beds". The case was run on Ubuntu 18.04 using LIGGGHTS for the particle dynamics and OpenFOAM 5.x for the fluid dynamics.

Steps to reproduce

Simulation Execution: To reproduce the results, open a bash terminal in the case directory and execute the Allrun.sh script using the command "Allrun.sh". This automated script executes the simulation in three sequential steps: 1. Particle Settling: Initializes and settles the granular assembly according to the parameters defined in DEM/in.liggghts_init. 2. Coupled CFD-DEM Simulation: Runs the fluid flow simulation using OpenFOAM and performs the particle-fluid coupling as configured in the CFD directory and the DEM/in.liggghts_run file. 3. Post-processing: Analyzes the results using Python scripts to generate the final data and figures.
