Data on chemical and pharmacological characteristics of simplicia and ethanol extract of Moringa oleifera leaves
Description
Moringa oleifera is a medicinal plant that has long been known and used by the community to prevent and treat various diseases and health problems. In this study, we characterized M. oleifera leaves simplicia as basic information regarding the quality and safety of a medicinal substance. Furthermore, we also report on the phytochemical profile and active compound content of M. oleifera leaves ethanol extract as well as its pharmacological properties as an antioxidant. The data obtained on the characteristics of M. oleifera leaves simplicia were compared with the standards set by the Indonesian Herbal Pharmacopoeia. The ethanol extract of M. oleifera leaves contains flavonoids, tannins, and steroids. LCMS analysis LCMS analysis found that there were 39 active compounds in the ethanol extract of Moringa leaves. The extract also contains total phenolics and flavonoids which show antioxidant activity.

M. oleifera leaves collected in Kokalukuna district, Baubau city, Southeast Sulawesi. Geographical coordinates: 05o 25’41.68” S 122o 39’12.47” E or 51M 461611 939987. Characterizations of M. oleifera leaves simplicia were using gravimetric analysis techniques to tested for water content, ash content, and acid-insoluble ash content, while the pour plate method and Inductively Coupled Plasma – Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP OES) were used to evaluate microbial and metal contamination, respectively. The color visualization method was used to obtained phytochemical data for the ethanol extract of M. oleifera leaves qualitatively. The UHPLC Vanquish Tandem Q Exactive Plus Orbitrap HRMS Thermo Scientific method was used to identify the active compounds. The total phenolic and total flavonoid as quercetin content in the ethanol extract of M. oleifera leaves were measured using UV-vis spectrophotometer, while antioxidant activity was evaluated using the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method.
