Description

his dataset is a CSV export of the California Housing dataset retrieved using the fetch_california_housing function from scikit-learn. The dataset contains 20,640 observations, eight numerical predictive features, and the target variable MedHouseVal. The dataset was obtained from the StatLib repository and was derived from the 1990 U.S. Census. The original dataset is associated with the work of R. Kelley Pace and Ronald Barry (1997), Sparse Spatial Autoregressions, Statistics & Probability Letters, 33(3), 291–297. This deposited CSV is provided to support reproducibility of research analyses.

Steps to reproduce

The dataset was retrieved using the fetch_california_housing function from the sklearn.datasets module in scikit-learn. The dataset was loaded with as_frame=True and converted to a pandas DataFrame. The resulting DataFrame containing the eight predictor variables and the MedHouseVal target variable was exported to CSV using to_csv("california_housing.csv", index=False). No observations or values were modified after retrieval.
