Description

This dataset contains the raw experimental data supporting the findings reported in the article "Surface coating of UNS G15130 steel by thermo-reactive diffusion using recycled titanium machining chips: process feasibility and coating characterization" (International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, Springer). Data include potentiodynamic polarization curves (.CRV), X-ray diffraction patterns (.txt), and cross-sectional SEM micrographs (.tif) for the uncoated substrate and specimens treated at 1000 °C with 10 wt.% Ti F-67 Grade 4 machining chips for 1 h and 4 h in a NaCl-KCl eutectic molten salt bath.

Steps to reproduce

Cross-sectional specimens were prepared by mounting in Bakelite, grinding with SiC paper up to 1500 grit, and polishing with 1.0 µm alumina suspension. SEM micrographs were acquired in backscattered electron (BSE) mode using a Zeiss EVO LS15 instrument. Potentiodynamic polarization was performed in 3.5 wt.% NaCl at 1 mV/s using a Radiometer Analytical PGZ 402 potentiostat (SCE reference, 0.5 cm² exposed area; Ecorr and Icorr extracted by cathodic Tafel extrapolation). XRD was acquired on a Rigaku Ultima IV (Cu Kα, λ = 1.5406 Å, 2θ = 30–100°); phase identification and Rietveld refinement used PROFEX v5.4.1 with ICSD reference data.
