Ms Neuryurus

Description

Glyptodonts are one the most divergent clade within Xenarthra Cingulata. Despite this, It is one of the least studied groups. Although in recent years there has been an increase in knowledge of its anatomy, taxonomy and phylogeny, almost nothing is known about its ontogeny and associated morphological changes. Our hypothesis is that some taxa of great biostratigraphic importance correspond to juvenile specimens of already known species. Here we perform a comparative analysis of several ontogenetic stages of specimens of the genus Panocthus. We conclude that Neuryurus rudis, a guide species of the Ensenadense Stage/Age, corresponds to a juvenile specimen of Panochthus, one of the most frequently recorded genera in southern South America.
