Evaluation of general health status in THA
Description
Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is the primary treatment for severe joint damage and is a significant surgical advancement of the century. With a remarkable 30-year follow-up, this study aims to assess postoperative THA patients' long-term quality of life, particularly their complications, functionality, satisfaction, and survival after surgery.

This retrospective comparative cohort study was conducted between 1990 and 2020 in a tertiary hospital in Mexico. The study utilized the comprehensive Hip and Knee Joint Reconstruction Service database, a valuable resource that contains detailed information on patients who have undergone total hip arthroplasty (THA). A total of 458 patients from this database were evaluated with a follow-up of 30 years. Between 1990 and 2020, 400 patients had a diagnosis of RP, while 58 had a diagnosis of OA. Of all the evaluated patients, 87% of our population had a diagnosis of RP, while 12% had a diagnosis of OA. Our population of patients with rheumatic pathologies is more frequent, we selected by simple random sampling (SRS) to balance the number of cases to be compared, so there are 50 cases in each group. The following scales were used to assess functionality: Harris Hip Score (HHS) and Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC); pain was evaluated using the visual analog pain scale (VAS); satisfaction was assessed using the SF-36 scale; and ATR survival was calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method. Statistical analysis was performed using the STATA program, version 15, for MacBook. Basic descriptive measures of central tendency and dispersion are presented. A value of P<0.05 and a confidence interval of 95% were considered to be statistically significant.
