Description
This study relies on cross-sectional survey data from 3,244 individuals collected across three Iranian presidential elections (2017, 2021, 2024). The surveys include 1,082 respondents in 2017, 1,154 in 2021, and 1,008 in 2024, for a total of 3,244 observations. Data were collected through a mixed-mode design combining self-administered online questionnaires and structured face-to-face interviews. Both modes were administered within two months of each election to ensure that economic evaluations and turnout recall remained temporally proximate to the electoral event and comparable across waves. Respondents were recruited using a non-probability quota sampling procedure designed to achieve geographic dispersion across urban, rural, and diaspora populations. The sample covers multiple Iranian cities as well as respondents residing abroad, reflecting the fact that Iranian citizens are eligible to cast their presidential ballots at Iranian diplomatic missions outside the country. While this design enhances geographic representativeness relative to a purely urban or convenience sample, it does not constitute a probability sample of the Iranian electorate, and inferential claims should be understood accordingly. After excluding non-substantive turnout responses and applying listwise deletion for variables used in the main model, the primary estimation sample contains 1,935 respondents. The data provide detailed information on respondents’ demographic characteristics, socioeconomic status, and political attributes, alongside multiple measures of subjective economic perceptions. Because turnout is self-reported rather than validated against official records, the dependent variable is susceptible to social desirability bias, and the estimates should accordingly be interpreted as associations with reported rather than actual participation.
