The stool samples were collected using sterile spatulas from infant diapers. A stool sample was taken from all newborns at the first bowel movement on admission, then twice a week for a period of 3 weeks. From the stool samples, DNA was extracted by Monarch® Genomic DNA Purification kit. Then, the samples were analyzed by using RT-PCR. The screening aimed four phyla: Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes, Actinobacteria, Proteobacteria.
