Description

This dataset contains questionnaire responses from 638 parents concerning their awareness of child protection measures under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 in India. The Excel workbook comprises 638 complete observations and 51 variables, including eight demographic variables and 43 measurement items. The demographic variables cover gender, age group, educational qualification, area of residence, occupation, family structure, number of children and children’s age group. The measurement items represent seven domains: awareness of the POCSO Act (PA), awareness of child protection measures (CPM), recognition of risk and warning signs (RWS), reporting awareness and confidence (RAC), school and community safeguarding awareness (SCS), parental preventive behaviour (PPB), and overall perception of child protection (OCP). Responses to the measurement items were recorded on a five-point Likert scale ranging from 1 (Strongly Disagree) to 5 (Strongly Agree). The deposited files include the respondent-level dataset in Excel format and the complete questionnaire containing the demographic questions, construct definitions, item codes and response scale. The dataset contains no personally identifiable information and may support research on parental awareness, child safeguarding, preventive behaviour, reporting preparedness and implementation of child protection legislation.
