Guardianship and Coexistence: Collaboration of the World Heritage Karst Protection and the Buffer Zone Agroforestry Development with a Special Reference to Shibing Karst

This dataset contains the research data and calculation procedures used to evaluate the coordinated development between heritage protection and buffer-zone agroforestry development. It includes respondent information from 226 valid questionnaires collected in two survey years: 87 valid questionnaires in 2020 and 139 in 2025. Respondents were distributed across six villages or sampling areas. In 2020, the sample distribution was Baiduo = 26, Shijiawan = 9, Shengxi = 11, Tangtou = 12, Shiqiao = 17, and Yuntai = 12. In 2025, the distribution was Baiduo = 50, Shengxi = 8, Shijiawan = 19, Shiqiao = 25, Tangtou = 7, and Yuantai = 30. The questionnaire variables include village, age group, gender, education level, income category, agroforestry experience, and selected perception indicators related to heritage protection and agroforestry development. The evaluation system consists of two subsystems: heritage protection (HP) and agroforestry development (AF). Each subsystem includes four dimensions: nature, institution, livelihood, and cultural awareness. The workbook contains 24 indicators, coded as HP_N1–HP_N3, HP_I1–HP_I3, HP_L1–HP_L3, HP_C1–HP_C3, AF_N1–AF_N3, AF_I1–AF_I3, AF_L1–AF_L3, and AF_C1–AF_C3. These indicators were used to calculate standardized values, entropy weights, weighted scores, comprehensive subsystem scores, coupling degree, coordination degree, and obstacle degree. The workbook provides complete calculation procedures for three weighting schemes: the unified entropy-weight method, the year-specific entropy-weight method, and the equal-weight method. The unified entropy-weight method was used as the main approach by combining the 2020 and 2025 village-year evaluation units into one matrix, ensuring comparability between years. The year-specific entropy-weight method calculates separate weights for 2020 and 2025 after unified standardization, while the equal-weight method assigns identical weights to all indicators as a robustness reference. The obstacle-degree worksheet identifies the main limiting indicators and dimensions affecting coordinated development. It includes indicator deviation degree, weighted deviation values, indicator-level obstacle degree, and dimension-level obstacle degree, calculated based on entropy weights and standardized indicator values. All questionnaire data have been anonymized. The dataset does not include respondent names, phone numbers, identification numbers, exact addresses, dates of birth, or other directly identifiable personal information. Age, income, education, and agroforestry experience are recorded as categorical variables.
