The trial was established in six farms, quarter an acre each with maize crop variety KDH 212-14 at a spacing of 90cm between rows and 30cm between plants. A randomly complete block design (RCBD) was adopted for the trial with three randomly selected maize fields using Pherogen dispensers mating disruption technology (With MDT) and the other three without the dispensers (No MDT). The dispensers were placed at a distance of 20 metres apart extending to a radius of 127 m from the centre of the trial crop to represent an area wide integrated pest management approach (AW-IPM) covering five hectares. No additional pest management practices were used but all other agronomic practices including weeding were done on need basis in each farm.
