Geometry-referenced encodings of 24 commercial ceiling nail guns (protocol coordinates, station widths, handle thickness and terminal form) with their measured mass, centre-of-gravity position and actuation push force; the three-analyst, three-round reproducibility records obtained with and without the protocol; and the participant-level questionnaire and hand-measurement records of the user validation study, in which 20 professional users rated eight of the products relative to a fixed reference. The stimulus key links the blinded stimulus codes to the anonymised product numbers. The accompanying analysis scripts read these tables and reproduce every statistic reported in the article. All records are anonymised; the study received an institutional ethics exemption and written informed consent was obtained from every participant.

Steps to reproduce

The deposit is self-contained and needs no intermediate files. Install Python 3 with numpy and scipy, then run any script in S10_analysis_scripts/ directly: each script locates the CSV tables relative to its own location and prints the statistics reported in the corresponding section of the article. 1. 01_design_space_pca_and_taper.py - design space (PCA of the seven-station width profile), taper contrast and its coupling with product mass (Sections 3.1 and 3.3). 2. 02_rollout_moment.py - gravitational main term, thrust term, net firing-instant moment and the two rankings (Table 1 and Section 3.4). 3. 03_baseline_sensitivity.py - baseline-placement sensitivity of every derived quantity under two perturbation models (Supplementary S5.1). 4. 04_analyst_reproducibility.py - ICC(2,1)/ICC(2,k), repeatability and analyst dispersion, Bland-Altman agreement and the definitional-uncertainty comparison (Sections 3.2 and S1.6). 5. 05_questionnaire_statistics.py - Friedman and Nemenyi tests, forced choices, regional reports and descriptor-perception associations with and without mass control (Sections 3.5 and S3). S7 and S8 are already in millimetres. S9 holds raw instrument readings: imaging-rig readings are in display units and are converted to millimetres by dividing by the pixel-equivalence coefficient kappa_px = 17.3, while caliper thickness values are already in millimetres; the value_mm and value_deg columns give the values used in the analyses. The station conventions (nine coding-layer stations at 10-90% of the handle height H, seven-station fitting layer at 20-80%), the definition delta-w = w30 - w70, the pivot convention of the roll-out moment and the Bland-Altman aggregation convention are documented in README.md and in S10_analysis_scripts/README.md.
