Zinc mobility and isotope fractionation during hydrothermal alteration of ultramafic rocks: Implications for the global oceanic Zn cycle
Description
This dataset was generated to investigate Zinc mobility and isotope fractionation during serpentinization of ultramafic rocks and carbonation of serpentinites, and to evaluate the role of serpentinite carbonation in the oceanic Zn cycle. The primary data are whole-rock and mineral-separate Zn concentrations and δ⁶⁶Zn values for samples from the Xigaze ophiolite (Tibet) and the Norwegian Caledonides, including the Linnajavri Ultramafic Complex (LUC) and the Feragen Ultramafic Body (FUB). The Tibetan samples comprise fresh peridotites and variably serpentinized rocks; the Norwegian samples include serpentinites, soapstones, and listvenites. Mineral separates include olivine, serpentine, magnetite, talc, magnesite, dolomite, and clinochlore. Zinc concentrations and isotope compositions were measured in this study at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) by MC-ICP-MS; analytical details are provided in the manuscript. Supporting whole-rock major and trace element, Mg isotope, and O isotope data for the Tibetan samples are compiled from Zhao et al. (2021a, 2023); whole-rock major and trace element, Mg isotope, and O isotope data for the Norwegian samples are compiled from Beinlich et al. (2012, 2014), the links to the references are in the table provided.
