Description

This dataset supports the manuscript “Carbon accumulation by lithophytic moss crusts on mountainous rock slopes of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau”. The dataset contains 529 quadrat-level records from 57 rock-slope plots in western Sichuan, Maizhokunggar County, and Jiuzhaigou. Variables include region, site identifier, sequential quadrat identifier, elevation, slope gradient, colonization time, mean annual temperature, mean annual precipitation, moss coverage, biomass, soil retention, organic carbon content, organic carbon density, and stock-based annualized organic carbon accumulation rate. Each row represents one 20 cm × 20 cm quadrat.

Steps to reproduce

The cleaned data files provide the quadrat-level dataset used in the associated manuscript. Variable names, units, and descriptions are provided in data_dictionary.csv. The R script prepare_mendeley_dataset.R documents the data-cleaning workflow from the original spreadsheet to the public data files, including removal of unused lithology information, addition of region grouping, sorting of records by manuscript region order, and generation of sequential quadrat identifiers. Users can reproduce the cleaned dataset structure by following the workflow described in README.md and processing_log.txt.
