Description

The Chesapeake Bay sediment-water oxygen and nutrient flux data set (Ches Flux) contains a total of 36 variables (5 categorical and 31 numeric) including sediment-water fluxes of oxygen, ammonium, nitrite, nitrate plus nitrite, dissolved inorganic phosphorus and dissolved silica (DSi) as well as sample location, date of measurement, and a variety of water column and sediment characteristics (see Metadata Table 1 for full description). Data were collected beginning in 1977 and continued through 2019. A variety of researchers and institutions were involved in collection of these data. At almost all of the 348 sites sampled, data for all listed variables were available. The current data set contains 1746 lines of data and is also made available on the web (www.gonzo.cbl.umces.edu). A data reference source is listed for each line of data. Details concerning measurement methodologies and chemical analytical techniques can be found in these sources.
