Description

This dataset contains hyperspectral reflectance (350-2500 nm), thermal infrared temperature, stem water potential, soil water potential, and environmental data from a controlled experiment investigating combined heat and drought stress in 12 apple trees. Conducted July 17-August 6, 2023, at terraXcube (Eurac Research, Bolzano, Italy). Experimental Design: Trees were distributed across four climate chambers and subjected to different watering regimes and temperature periods Data Types: 1. Hyperspectral reflectance: SR-3500 spectroradiometer measurements (350-2500 nm, 1 nm intervals) from ~10 leaves per tree on 5 dates. Data includes raw spectra and metadata. Note: No measurements during peak heat due to instrument temperature limitations (>35°C). 2. Thermal infrared: Leaf temperatures from Extech 42512 thermometer on 15 dates, 5-10 leaves per tree. 3. Stem water potential: Mid-day measurements (12:00-13:00) via Scholander pressure chamber, approximately every 2 days (~60 total measurements). 4. Soil water potential: Continuous monitoring throughout 21-day experiment for all trees. 5. Environmental data: 1-minute resolution temperature and humidity data from all four chambers. 6. Analysis code: Complete R script for data processing, statistical analysis (linear mixed-effects models), and predictive modeling (PLS-DA for treatment classification, PLSR for stem water potential estimation with leave-one-out cross-validation and mRMR feature selection). Sample Size: ~ 1228 spectra , ~2037 thermal measurements Key Files: - DataAnalysis.R: Analysis code. Acessess and unifies all other data files directly. - .sed files: Raw hyperspectral data - Data_log_spectral_measurements_tXc_July_2023.xlsx: Metadata linking measurements to trees/treatments Physiological Data - tXc_Scholander2.xlsx: Stem water potentials - AGRRITECH_1min_avg_data.xlsx: Environmental conditions (4 sheets for chambers) - Soil Moisture: Soil moisture data **Usage Notes:** Time offsets between chambers corrected (0, 30, 60, 90 min). Data from July 19 excluded from some models (see code). Dry references estimated for WWC trees using mixed-effects models. CWSI ranges 0-1 (higher=greater stress). **Associated Publication:** Cullinan, C.B., Giuliani, N., Janik, K., & Tagliavini, M. (2025).
