Volumetric Behaviour Analysis (VBA) of Hong Kong Public Housing Flats - Interview 21PHHA6T
Description
This package contains digital transcribed recordings (Cantonese to English) and interview reports from 45-minute semi-structured interviews with residents of a Hong Kong public high-rise. Each dataset is designated "Case". Data was conducted via digitally recorded semi-structured interviews, supplemented by observational notes, and then transcribed. These capture residents' spatial experiences, furniture arrangements, daily adaptations, and challenges in compact living. The qualitative data enables interpretation of super-tall, high-density housing conditions by revealing occupant behaviours, spatial preferences, and subjective interactions. Access is restricted for one year to anonymise personal information. The data is provided for future research examining housing behaviour in direct connection to spatial utilisation and user needs.

Data collection was conducted through 45-minute semi-structured interviews with residents of high-rise public housing flats. Prior to each interview, residents were briefed on the interview protocol. The interviews were carried out in Cantonese by a native speaker, who also recorded the sessions using a digital recorder. In addition to the audio recordings, the interviewer made written notes for each question, annotating specific items or issues as they arose. During the interviews, residents were asked to identify areas of uncertainty within their flats and to provide specific responses to targeted questions. Upon completion, the interviews were transcribed, anonymised, and subsequently translated into English. The resulting data is available both as digital audio files and as fully transcribed text documents.
