Ultra High speed imaging of dynamic fracture in transparent Spinel ceramic. The videos where film at frame rate of 2,5,7.5 and 8 milion frame per second. The Spinel bar, 3mm thick, is standing upright and unsupported. It is shock-loaded by a steel bar (Hopkinson) on the right hand side. The crack is initiated at the opposite left side, which is in tension.
