Data for: Designing Generative Friction: Retaining Human Sensemaking and Epistemic Governance in AI-Augmented Design Practice.
Description
This dataset provides the comprehensive methodological audit trail and qualitative extraction protocol for an Integrative Literature Review examining the impact of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) on managerial sensemaking and strategic design. Grounded in PRISMA 2020 reporting standards, the workbook details the end-to-end literature screening process. It includes the execution of a highly specific PICOC 2.0 framework designed to isolate agentic models (post-2022) from classical predictive AI (e.g., traditional Decision Support Systems). The dataset comprises the initial database search yields (Scopus and Web of Science), independent double-evaluator screening matrices, and explicit justifications for excluded full-text reports. The core of the dataset is the final thematic extraction matrix of 37 high-impact articles, which captures first-order textual evidence, quality appraisals (risk of bias assessment), and sociotechnical governance mechanisms (Generative Friction and Epistemic Governance).

Steps to reproduce
Execution of a tripartite Boolean equation (Discipline, Technology, Governance) across Scopus and Web of Science Core Collection, restricting results to peer-reviewed articles and conference papers (2018-2026). Export of raw records (N=769) to Rayyan software for automated deduplication and subsequent blind title/abstract screening. Full-text eligibility assessment applying a strict PICOC 2.0 framework. Studies focusing on classical machine learning, non-managerial populations, and non-empirical conceptual frameworks were systematically excluded to prevent sample contamination and ensure construct validity. Documentation of precise exclusion reasons for transparency. Qualitative data extraction structured to capture contextual variables, specific technological interventions, diagnosed cognitive pathologies (e.g., managerial overreliance, Shadow AI), prescribed governance mechanisms, and raw textual evidence to anchor the subsequent thematic synthesis.
