Description

This dataset contains chemical (major and trace elements), isotopic (Sr and Nd) analyses on whole rock and minerals, noble gas (3He/4He, 20Ne and 40Ar/36Ar) and δ13C isotopic analyses performed on fluid inclusions in minerals from the whole stratigraphic sequence of the 79 CE eruption from Somma-Vesuvius, sampled at Cava Pozzelle.

Steps to reproduce

Samples preparation was performed at the Laboratories of the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV), Osservatorio Vesuviano. Major and trace elements of whole rocks were analysed by inductively coupled plasma–atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) and inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry (ICP–MS). Major and minor elements content of minerals were acquired by electron microprobe (EMP). Sr–Nd isotopic composition of whole minerals were determined by thermal ionization mass spectrometry (TIMS). Isotopic analyses of noble gases and CO2 were performed through isotope ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS). Details on the analytical techniques are reported in the text document.
