Description

Digital innovation has emerged as a pivotal force that shapes event participants’ behavioural intentions; however, its effects remain contested, requiring a clearer understanding of the underlying mechanisms and contextual conditions. Through a visual analysis of 616 relevant studies, this study establishes “digital innovation” as a leading edge research topic in the field of cultural tourism. Employing meta analytic structural equation modelling on 210 independent studies drawn from 70 articles, this study reveals that perceived attributes of digital innovation are moderately and positively correlated with event participants’ favourable behavioural intentions. Emotional attachment mediates these relationships. Moreover, digital innovation type, event type, participation mode, and national culture significantly moderate the effect of emotional attachment on participants’ behavioural intentions. Further, for cultural festivals, the moderating effect of dissemination oriented digital innovation is significantly stronger than that of experience oriented digital innovation, whereas for sports events, no significant difference is observed. This study clarifies theoretical controversies, quantifies the mediating effect sizes, and constructs a contingency framework, thereby providing a solid foundation for digital management in event tourism.
