Description

This research is an explanatory sequential mixed-methods study focused on the effect of Smart Tourism Systems (STS) on sustainable tourism. 543 participants were included, and 22 were interviewed in a semi-structured manner. Structural equation modeling found significant positive associations across the model. Environmental sustainability tourism was associated with social sustainability tourism (β = 0.508), and social sustainability tourism with sustainable development outcomes (β = 0.426). Smart tourism systems with environmental sustainability in tourism (β = 0.405), real-time environmental monitoring (β = 0.252), and information transparency (β = 0.181) were associated with environmental sustainability, while perceived usefulness (β = 0.174), perceived ease of use (β = 0.221), and carrying-capacity control (β = 0.189) were associated with social sustainability. Qualitative findings highlighted stakeholder inclusion, conservation, digitalization, resilience, and responsible governance. The research expanded the Technology Acceptance Model in that the capabilities of technology for environmental and social sustainability were shown.
