Dataset on Collaborative Forest Landscape Restoration Networks in Rwanda and Ethiopia
Description
This dataset contains social network and stakeholder data collected from Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) initiatives in Rwanda and Ethiopia using the Net-Map participatory network mapping approach. The data capture collaboration relationships among FLR stakeholders, together with stakeholder attributes and influence assessments. Data were collected through participatory workshops in Rutsiro and Ngororero Districts (Rwanda) and the Lake Chamo catchment (Ethiopia). The dataset supports analyses of collaborative governance, social capital, trust and distrust dynamics, and collective action in forest landscape restoration networks.

Steps to reproduce
The dataset was generated using the Net-Map participatory social network mapping methodology using the Net-Map protocol described by Hauck and Schiffer (2012). Data were collected from stakeholders involved in Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) initiatives in Rutsiro and Ngororero Districts (Rwanda) and the Lake Chamo catchment (Ethiopia). Stakeholders were initially identified with the support of local authorities and subsequently through snowball sampling. Data collection combined individual Net-Map interviews and participatory workshops. During each session, participants identified key FLR actors and mapped relationships among them, including collaboration, trust, distrust, information exchange, financial support, authority, and conflict. Participants also assessed the relative influence of actors using participatory scoring techniques. Network maps were recorded, photographed, and digitized to create node and edge datasets. Stakeholder attributes, including actor type and influence scores, were compiled into accompanying attribute tables. Data cleaning and network preparation were conducted in R. The resulting datasets can be imported into social network analysis software such as R (igraph, statnet, and ergm packages) to reproduce the analyses reported in the associated manuscript. Detailed analytical procedures, including network construction and model estimation, are documented in the accompanying manuscript and analysis scripts.
