Description

The settling process of seven spherical particles in a viscous fluid in the transitional regime has been investigated using high-speed shadow imaging. The file names include the sphere material and diameter value in [mm]. The dataset provides for each experiment the center coordinates (x,y-position), vertical and horizontal velocity components as function of time. The unit of the center coordinate values is [mm]. The origin of the reference coordinate system is the bottom center of the container used for the experiment, with upwards pointing positive vertical direction. The velocity values have the unit [m/s] and the values are given for every [ms], corresponding to a frame rate of 1000 fps. The ".mat"-files are a native MATLAB format. Each case includes a representative MATLAB figure. It provides a simple visualization of the particle trajectory and shows the sphere at the end of the trajectory together with an indication of the initial position. Dataset content list: 1) Sets for Steel_16, Steel_14, POM_20, PTFE_06 contain 3 sub-directories (case1, case2 and case3 corresponding to individual repetitions). 2) Sets for PTFE_10 contain 10 sub-directories (case1, …, case10). 3) Sets for PTFE_20 contain 6 sub-directories (case1, …, case6). 4) Sets for Rubber_22 contain 2 sub-directories (case1 and case2). For every case, the following files are included: CenterCoord.mat, Vx.mat, Vy.mat and Summary.fig.
