Description

These results present experimental findings on biohydrogen production using a custom-made stirred tank reactor in four configurations: a conventional continuously stirred tank reactor (CSTR), a traditional anaerobic moving bed biofilm reactor (AMBBR), an AMBBR with a custom-designed baffle system, and a modified AMBBR with recycling. Each configuration underwent duplicate experimental runs, summarising cumulative hydrogen gas volume, productivity, and yield. The modified AMBBR with recycling demonstrated the highest performance among the configurations. The results also encompass an analysis of the microbial community within each reactor configuration. All configurations exhibited diverse microbial communities, predominantly dominated by Clostridia, the key hydrogen producers.
