Soil Chemical Properties in Zeya Nature Reserves of Russian Far East
Description
This dataset contains analytical data describing the chemical and optical properties of soil organic matter (SOM) and water-soluble soil organic matter (WSOM) collected from boreal forest soils in the Zeya State Nature Reserve, Russian Far East. Soil samples were obtained from multiple vegetation zones along an elevation gradient, including montane forest, subalpine, and alpine tundra environments, as well as sites with and without wildfire disturbance history. The dataset includes measurements of soil physicochemical properties, elemental composition, molecular composition, and optical characteristics. Specifically, the data include elemental carbon and nitrogen contents, soil moisture content, bulk density, ignition loss, and pH, as well as molecular composition data obtained using tetramethylammonium hydroxide pyrolysis–gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (TMAH-Py-GC/MS). In addition, water-soluble organic matter data include dissolved organic carbon concentrations, ultraviolet–visible absorbance spectra, and excitation–emission matrix fluorescence spectra. The dataset contains both raw and processed analytical outputs used to characterize SOM and WSOM across different vegetation types and environmental conditions. These data provide reference information on soil organic matter composition in boreal forest ecosystems and may be reused for comparative studies, environmental assessments, and investigations of soil carbon dynamics and wildfire-affected environments.

Steps to reproduce
Surface soil samples (0–5 cm depth) were collected from multiple vegetation zones along an elevation gradient on Mts. Topunai and Erakingra. Samples were air-dried and sieved prior to analysis. Basic soil properties including moisture content, bulk density, ignition loss, pH, and elemental carbon and nitrogen contents were measured using standard analytical methods. The molecular composition of soil organic matter was analyzed using tetramethylammonium hydroxide pyrolysis–gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (TMAH-Py-GC/MS). Water-soluble organic matter was extracted using distilled water and analyzed for dissolved organic carbon, UV–visible absorbance, and fluorescence excitation–emission matrix spectra. Processed and raw analytical data were compiled into the dataset provided.
