Digital Assessment Acceptance among Nursing and Midwifery Students in Ghana: Development and External Validation Datasets with Questionnaire

The dataset facilitates studies on the acceptance of digital assessment among Nursing and Midwifery students in Ghana. The data was gathered through the Digital Assessment Acceptance Questionnaire and is presented as two separate datasets with the first consisting of 800 students, whereas the second one consists of 300 students. One participant is represented by each row, while the 42 columns present responses related to demographic variables, computer skills, prior experience in online examination, digital platforms knowledge, web service skills, perceptions of fairness, benefits and disadvantages of online exams, screen and interface design, system usability, effects on learning, opinions of students, technical problems, and exam preparation. Digital assessment acceptance may be obtained using the information provided in the eight Student Opinion questions. A participant is considered to have positive acceptance of digital assessment if at least five of the eight items receive the positive answer ("Agree" or "Strongly Agree"). The categorical answers are preserved for all the items as well as all the missing data. All the personal identification information has been removed and the data are anonymised. The Digital Assessment Acceptance Questionnaire is provided as supporting documentation to help understand the wording of the items used for collecting data. These materials can be used for descriptive statistics, psychometrics, machine learning algorithms construction, external validation, and comparative studies.

Steps to reproduce

Two independent cross-sectional surveys were conducted among Nursing and Midwifery students in Ghana. The development dataset contains 800 students from Garden City University (n=470), Valley View University (n=150), and Christian Service University (n=180). The external-validation dataset contains 300 students from Wisconsin International University College. Ethical approval was granted under reference GCUC/RERC/2025/025, and institutional permission was obtained. Data were collected through Google Forms using the accompanying Digital Assessment Acceptance Questionnaire. The instrument covered demographics, computer competency, online-examination experience, digital-platform familiarity, web-service competency, perceived fairness, interface design, system use, learning impact, student opinions, technical difficulties, and examination preparation. Attitudinal questions used four responses: Strongly Disagree, Disagree, Agree, and Strongly Agree. To replicate the procedure, recreate the questionnaire using the accompanying PDF and administer it to eligible Nursing and Midwifery students. Keep the development and validation samples independent and exclude direct identifiers. Export responses to CSV with one participant per row and one questionnaire variable per column. Retain the original categorical labels and leave unanswered items blank. Check for duplicate records, identifiers, invalid categories, inconsistent labels, and incorrect column order. The final files should contain 800 rows × 42 columns and 300 rows × 42 columns, with identical column names and ordering. Acceptance is derived from the eight Student Opinion items. Treat “Agree” and “Strongly Agree” as affirmative; treat “Disagree” and “Strongly Disagree” as non-affirmative. Sum affirmative responses for each participant. A score of at least 5 out of 8 indicates positive acceptance. This gives 572 positive cases in the development dataset (71.5%) and 273 in the validation dataset (91.0%). The CSV files can be analysed using Python, R, SPSS, Stata, or similar software. Exact responses cannot be regenerated because they are empirical participant data, but the collection, preparation, quality-control, and acceptance-classification procedures can be reproduced.
