Wing pitch timing and wing elevation modulate forces and body pitch in forward flapping flight - velocity fields 1
Description
This data set contains the velocity fields used in the analysis presented in the paper "Wing pitch timing and wing elevation modulate forces and body pitch in forward flapping flight". Each file gives the values of x, y, z, vx, vy, vz and mask at each point of a single sequence ; x,y,z is the position, vx,vy,vz are the velocity components and mask is the vorticity-based mask used in the reconstruction of the velocity field for the power computations. The name of the files describe the case tested -- different timing of the pitch (TP) or mean wing elevation (MWE). TP is in relation to the turning point of the up and downstrokes with a shift of 5% of the wingbeat period. An ‘early’ pitch means the wing rotates before reaching the turning point, while a ‘late’ pitch means rotation occurs after the turning point. We varied the mean wing elevation, MWE (by independently controlling the maximum elevation and depression angle of the wing), between -30 deg (low), 0 deg (mid) and 30 deg (high). For each kinematic condition, we made three measurements, where each measurement included four flapping cycles. Each file contains three first lines (starting with an #) describing the content of the file, then lists the data, each line corresponding to a single point in the wake.
