Astragalus Membranaceus Herbal Formula for the Treatment of Idiopathic Membranous Nephropathy with Nephrotic Syndrome: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Description
In 10 studies, 2 studies compared Astragalus membranaceus (AM) formula with routine treatment (RT), mainly explaining the effectiveness and safety of AM formula for IMN patients with NS. Other 8 studies compared AM formula plus RT with RT alone, principally explaining which was more effective and safer for IMN complicated with NS patients, AM formula or RT. We used Review Manager5.3 for data synthesis and analysis. Comprehensive analysis shown that compared with control intervention, experimental intervention had more advantages in increasing total remission rate(P<0.0001), levels of serum albumin (P<0.0001) and reducing total recurrence rate(P=0.0005), total rate of adverse events(P<0.00001), levels of 24-hour urine protein excretion (P<0.00001), total cholesterol (P<0.00001) and triglyceride (P<0.0001). In addition, during the treatment, there was no significantly statistical difference in changing the levels of serum creatinine (P= 0.44), blood urea nitrogen (P=0.34), estimated glomerular filtration rate (P=0.14), alanine aminotransferase (P=0.73), aspartate aminotransferase (P=0.38) and fasting blood glucose (P=0.95) between experimental group and control group.
