Supporting Learning In and Out of School
Description
This replication package accompanies the paper “Supporting Learning In and Out of School: Experimental Evidence from India”. The study evaluates a randomized education intervention implemented with Pratham Education Foundation in Assam, India. The intervention tested whether Learning Camps (in school), Study Groups (out of school), or their combination improved children’s learning outcomes and related household, school, and implementation outcomes. The data consist of de-identified analysis datasets constructed from baseline and endline child, household/caregiver, school, intervention monitoring, and administrative school data. The baseline survey was conducted in 2018 and the endline survey in 2019. The trial sample includes 200 primary public schools, 5,726 children, and 4,592 caregivers. The datasets contain treatment assignment indicators, child test-score outcomes, household and caregiver variables, school-level variables, implementation and exposure measures, and selected administrative comparison variables used in the paper’s tables and figures. The data can be used to reproduce the main experimental estimates, balance and attrition checks, heterogeneous effects, secondary-outcome analyses, implementation and exposure tables, and selected appendix figures included in the paper. The Stata code estimates treatment effects by comparing outcomes across the randomized treatment arms: control, Learning Camps only, Study Groups only, and Learning Camps plus Study Groups. Standard errors are clustered at the village/school catchment level where specified in the paper. Direct personal identifiers and unnecessary indirect identifiers, including exact child, household, teacher, village, cluster, block, and school names, have been removed from the replication data files. Some outputs that rely on restricted Pratham administrative data are excluded because those underlying data are not authorized for redistribution. To use the package, users should open Stata, set the working directory to the root of the replication folder, and run do-files/Master.do. The generated tables and figures can then be compiled using the included LaTeX compilation file. The README provides detailed information on data files, software requirements, included and excluded outputs, and replication instructions.
