Description

The dataset supports the examination of groundwater deteioration in the Hulun-Buir Steppe, Inner Mongolia, China. The lake area data was detected from Landsat images through manual interpretation from 1999 to 2015. Since we were examining the whole Hulun-Buir basin consisting of 12 banners (counties), we used the groundwater table to measure water environmental change because the observations of the groundwater table were collected in 12 counties during the study period. The data of groundwater table observations were provided by Meteorological Center, Inner Mongolia Ecological and Agrometeorology Bureau, Inner Mongolia, China. The data on annual precipitation and the average temperature from 2000 to 2015 came from the same source. The data of land-use and land-cover changes (LULC) primarily came from The NASA MCD12Q1 Data Product (https://lpdaac.usgs.gov/products/mcd12q1v006/) at 500 m resolution. 16 out of the 17 International Geosphere-Biosphere Program LULC types were found in the study area, except "Evergreen Broadleaf Forest" (http://www.igbp.net/). The socioeconomic variables were entered from the statistic yearbooks of the IMAR from 2000 to 2015 (IMAR Statistical Bureau, 2001 - 2016).
