Description

A cross-sectional design was used on a sample of 122 mothers chosen randomly from 333 mothers aged 15–49 years, married, and projected to give birth between November 2016 and April 2017. Data were collected by interviews to complete a questionnaire tested for validity and reliability . Variables in this study were as follows: The knowledge of IUDs and postplacental IUDs was the independent variable, the use of postplacental IUDs was the dependent variable, and the potential confounding variables were number of children, maternal attitudes toward the postplacental IUD, husband’s support, and counseling. The postplacental IUD use was measured by asking whether the mother was using contraception and the type of contraception used. If the mother was using an IUD, she was asked when and where the insertion was performed and who performed the procedure. Knowledge pf IUDs including time of postplacental IUD insertion, duration of use, advantages and disadvantages, contraindications for postplacental IUD use, time between insertion and the return visit to the outpatient clinic, and conditions when IUDs can or must be removed.
